The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) approved a second $56.8 million disbursement to Holtec for restarting the Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan, part of a $1.52 billion loan guarantee. The plant, set to be the first restarted U.S. commercial nuclear reactor, is expected to operate through 2051. Holtec, which acquired the plant in 2022, has made progress by re-establishing its workforce and securing power purchase agreements. Additionally, Holtec has intends to build small modular reactors (SMR-300) at the site, with plans for the first commercial operation by 2030.
