The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has approved PJM Interconnection’s plan to fast-track interconnection reviews for 50 power generation projects, despite opposition from renewable energy developers. This initiative aims to address potential capacity shortfalls as early as 2026 by bringing 10 GW of power online up to 18 months faster than the normal process.
FERC also approved PJM’s proposal to expand access to the grid by modifying Surplus Interconnection Service (SIS) rules, allowing new resources to utilize unused capacity from existing facilities. This change could unlock more than 26 GW of additional capacity by 2026/27.
