The Southwest Power Pool (SPP) has approved a historic $7.7 billion plan to expand and strengthen transmission capacity across its 14-state region. As the largest initiative in SPP’s history, the 2024 Integrated Transmission Plan addresses rising electricity demand, shifts in energy generation, and the need for greater grid resilience against extreme weather events. With 89 projects planned, including 2,333 miles of new transmission lines and 495 miles of upgrades, the investment is projected to pay for itself within three years and deliver immediate cost benefits from the first year of operation.
