The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) renewed the operating licenses for Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant’s two units. The approval, announced April 2, 2026, authorizes each pressurized-water reactor for an additional 20 years of operation. The reactors were previously scheduled for shutdown, however they are now able to remain in service well beyond 2040-pending approval from California lawmakers for operations after 2030.
