Through July 2024, the U.S. power grid added 20.2 gigawatts (“GW”) of generating capacity according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Solar generating capacity was the largest portion, representing 59% of additions. Battery storage and wind power additions were also significant, representing 21% and 12% of the total, respectively. An estimated 42.6 GW of additional new generating capacity is excepted to be added by developers before the end of 2024.
